When God writes your love story

I admit, I'm NBSB. Both S and I are. Maybe it's because of years in exclusive schools, or maybe we're just too idealistic.

Well, people aren't very nice when it comes to NBSBs especially our age. My cousin even said I should consult a psychologist co'z there must be something wrong with me (what the hell??) Well, dear, dear, dear, it only took one book to make me realize that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being single!

This book is amazing, I tell you! This is one of the very few non-fiction, religious book I have ever enjoyed! It's no wonder a lot of people recommend reading this. For me it was an obsession to find the book as I thought it was a novel or something. I've been scouting for years for this book only to find it the least obvious of places: a bazaar. lol!

Nikki Gil also swears on this book. She is actually one of the reasons I really wanted to find a copy. She has this in her favorite books of all time and knowing Nikki's background, she's a very smart and sensible girl so her literary recommendations are worth checking out.

I tell you girls, this book is for everyone! It answers every single question about love, relationships, singlehood, and everything in between! Believe me! There's even a chapter on the issue of people having "high standards". Oooooohhhh! Interesting, interesting :)

I can't explain much further but trust me on this. If you see the book anywhere, get one! You will be needing it! It's the ultimate go to guide on relationships! Plus, it helps you understand God's ways too, which is definitely a plus for doubting Catholics!

If you aren't a believer yet, I leave you with the very first quote that struck me from the book (this is just the first, believe me there's a lot more!) :

Penguin Classics Get a New Look!

Book stores are love :) I like spending time just browsing the shelves and mentally listing down titles I'd want to add to my book collection.

Well, I was casually looking through the books at National the other day when I chanced upon the coolest book covers ever!

What are they? They're some of our favorite Penguin Classics! Aren't they adorable?? I am so in love with these new covers, I wanted one for myself right then and there! But the hefty price tag on these and the fact that I already own a copy stopped me from another impulsive purchase. Hehe :P

My favorite of all the covers would have to be Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. See the drastic change from the boring cover on the left to the new age, graphic-inspired one on the right. I love it!

They are sooooo pretty! It just goes to show that Classics doesn't have to be boring! Besides, these books are some of the best stories I have ever read and I'm so happy they are given a modern spin. Makes me hopeful that more kids would want to read them too :)

For now, National Bookstore is the only store I've seen these in. They retail for more than 6oophp each. So sorry I didn't get to note the artist behind these masterpieces but from what I remember, he's a famous Spanish painter :)

Nightlight, a Twilight Parody

I admit, I'm not the biggest Twilight fan although I do get carried away by all the hype. I guess I can say, I'm in between so when my friend told me about this Twilight parody called Nightlight, it immediately piqued my interest!

For the first time in 40 years, the Harvard Lampoon publishes 'Nightlight', a spin-off of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series.

Here's what the product description reads:

About three things I was absolutely certain. First, Edwart was most likely my soul mate, maybe. Second, there was a vampire part of him–which I assumed was wildly out of his control–that wanted me dead. And third, I unconditionally, irrevocably, impenetrably, heterogeneously, gynecologically, and disreputably wished he had kissed me.

And thus Belle Goose falls in love with the mysterious and sparkly Edwart Mullen in the Harvard Lampoon’s hilarious send-up of Twilight.

Pale and klutzy, Belle arrives in Switchblade, Oregon looking for adventure, or at least an undead classmate. She soon discovers Edwart, a super-hot computer nerd with zero interest in girls. So okay, it might be better appreciated by detractors rather than fans. But when I told my good friend and Twilight fan P about it and lovingly joked about her being Belle Goose, she took it well and adapted to her new role, while imagining what Edwart looks like. So I guess it's not as offensive as others may think.

To be truly honest, you guys should read it! Twilight fans would appreciate it more because it was cleverly written and the parodies would be best understood by those who are actually well versed with the original. Chapter one is a total laugh! It points a lot of "unrecognized" flaws in the story with other funny and exaggerated spin-offs. I tell you, I'm now a big Nightlight fan! lol! :P

Listen to your novels!

I have been reading a lot of novels lately that I took my addiction to greater heights by downloading e-books and recently, audio books. I mean hey, it's a nice break from listening to songs on your mp3. Besides, isn't it cool to catch up on your reading while literally driving/riding in a car?

Well, I tried Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper because I didn't get to see the movie and I heard it was heartbreaking. I was very excited to start listening to it already, and to my delight, it was very good!

I was right thinking that audio books give you the overall experience: great narrator, different characters speaking, sound effects, etc, etc ! Well, the effects weren't there but the experience wasn't too bad :) I just didn't appreciate the fact that the narrator speaks too slow! With nothing else in tow, it gets boring just waiting for her next words!

I think one of the things you could do while listening to audio books is to sketch something or do something with your hands so you'll have better use of your time. Another idea is burning a CD of it and listening to it on your car's player. Then, you can even share the experience with your best pals while cruising down the highway! Just bear in mind that for one audio book, there are about 12 cds, each an hour long so burning a cd would necessitate a good number of available blank disks.

PK book: The Time Traveller's Wife

This is the first time PK is going to recommend a book for you to read. This is going to be the beginning of our segment, "PK recommends".

What better way to begin this segment with the one book that has been engaging almost all our friends at present:

The Time Traveller's Wife is a unique love story between Clare and Henry. It's almost your stereotypical romance novel except that Henry time travels. Yes, you read that right: he time travels. He has a bizarre disease (which we don't know of now coz it would be only be discovered in the future) which lets him travel to a time from his past. He then becomes two separate beings where his future self can interact with people in the past or more specifically, those who hasn't met him yet. Such is the case with Clare and Henry. Henry is 36 and Clare is 5 when they first meet. Henry time travelled and met Clare when she was still young. They would meet at different dates, with Henry a different age. It's cute because Henry already knows that Clare would end up to be his wife. So the book basically revolves on how their bizarre love story unfolds-- and how on earth they are able to make their relationship work. Interesting right?

S can't get enough of this book and so do I! We're loving it! A big thank you to our classmate who recommended the book to us. Now, we're recommending it to you :) We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did!
